Why is There No Sound in the Real-Time Screen?

Troubleshooting audio issues during live viewing on 4G cameras

Question

Why can't I hear sound when viewing my camera's live feed?

Answer

If you're experiencing no audio during real-time viewing, check these two common causes:

1. Sound Volume and Distance

Issue: Microphones may fail to detect audio below 55dB.

Understanding the Limitation:

  • The camera's microphone has a sensitivity threshold
  • Sounds quieter than 55dB may not be picked up
  • Distance from the sound source significantly affects volume

Solutions:

  • Ensure the sound source is loud enough to exceed 55dB
  • Position the camera closer to areas where you want to hear audio
  • Test with louder sounds to verify microphone functionality
  • Normal conversation is typically 60-70dB, which should be detected

2. Check Speaker Toggle

Issue: The speaker may be disabled in the app.

Solution:

  1. Open the real-time viewing screen
  2. Look at the bottom-left corner of the interface
  3. Find the speaker icon
  4. Verify the speaker icon is enabled (not muted/crossed out)
  5. Tap the speaker icon to toggle audio on if it's disabled

Sound Level Reference

For context, here are common sound levels:

  • Whisper: 30dB (may not be detected)
  • Normal conversation: 60-70dB (should be detected)
  • Loud conversation: 75-80dB (clearly detected)
  • Shouting: 85dB+ (very clear)

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Enable Speaker: Check speaker toggle is on
  2. Test with Loud Sound: Create a loud noise near the camera to test
  3. Check Network: Poor network may cause audio lag or dropout
  4. Restart App: Close and reopen the app
  5. Check Phone Volume: Ensure your phone's media volume is up
