Why is the recording timeline discontinuous?
Understanding motion-triggered recording behavior
A blank or discontinuous recording timeline is normal behavior for motion-triggered recording systems.
How It Works
The camera operates on alarm-triggered recording:
- Records only when motion is detected
- Stops recording when no motion is present
- Resumes when motion is detected again
What the Timeline Shows
- Recorded segments: Indicate periods with detected motion
- Blank gaps: No motion was detected during these times
- This is normal: Gaps don't indicate a malfunction
Example
If you review an 8-hour period:
- You might see recordings at 9:00 AM (person walked by)
- A gap from 9:01 AM to 3:00 PM (no motion)
- More recordings at 3:00 PM (activity resumed)
Want Continuous Recording?
If you need uninterrupted footage:
- Enable All-Day Recording in Recording Management
- Ensure sufficient SD card capacity
- Note: This will use significantly more storage
Benefits of Motion-Triggered Recording
- Saves storage space
- Easier to find important events
- Extends SD card lifespan
- Reduces review time
