How to Determine 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi?
Learn how to identify whether your WiFi network is 2.4GHz or 5GHz
Baby monitor cameras typically only support 2.4GHz WiFi networks. Here's how to identify your WiFi frequency:
1. Router Type Requirement
Only dual-band routers support both 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi and will transmit two WiFi signals. Single or mixed-frequency routers do not support this capability.
If your router only shows one WiFi network name, it's likely a single-band router operating at 2.4GHz.
2. Check Default Network Names
Most brands of routers come with two default WiFi names, such as:
MyNetworkorxxxx(typically 2.4GHz)MyNetwork-5Gorxxxx-5G(typically 5GHz)
The network name without the "-5G" suffix is usually the 2.4GHz network.
The base name (like "xxxx") typically represents the 2.4GHz band, while the variant with "-5G" suffix represents the 5GHz band.
3. Access Router Admin Panel
If you are unable to determine from the network name, you can access your router's administrative panel to locate detailed network specifications:
- Access your router's admin panel (usually at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1)
- Log in with your router credentials
- Navigate to the WiFi or wireless settings page
- Check the frequency band for each network name
When setting up your baby monitor, always connect your phone to the 2.4GHz network first, then add the camera using that network.
